Full-Time Veterinarian- SAVUSAVU
Animals Fiji is seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, resilient, and adaptable Veterinarian to join our team, based at our Savusavu Clinic on Vanua Levu.
This is a sole-charge clinic role, ideal for a veterinarian ready to step into responsibility — but you won’t be alone. You’ll be supported by a wider team of five experienced veterinarians across the Animals Fiji organisation, with regular clinical support, case discussions, and backup when needed. A Veterinary Assistant and our North Manager are also based at the Savusavu clinic.
If you’re looking for meaningful work, genuine impact, and professional growth beyond the typical clinic setting, this role may be for you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a hands-on mixed practice position involving:
- Companion animals (dogs & cats)
- Livestock and working animals (case-dependent)
- Community, welfare, and outreach cases
You will be responsible for:
- Day-to-day clinical care and case management at the Savusavu Clinic
- Performing surgeries, including high-volume sterilisation (injectable anaesthesia used in outreach settings)
- Managing clinic workflows, records, and regulatory compliance
- Supporting animal welfare, disease prevention, and One Health initiatives
- Participating in outreach and remote sterilisation clinics
- Collaborating closely with internal team members across Fiji
You’ll work in a resource-limited environment, where adaptability, sound clinical judgement, and problem-solving matter more than fancy diagnostics — and where your work genuinely changes lives.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
A Veterinary Medicine Degree (DVM, V.M.D., BVS, BVSc, BVMS, BVM or equivalent)
Eligibility to register to practice in Fiji under the Veterinary Surgeons Act (Schedule 2)
Confidence working independently, with the willingness to seek support and local knowledge
Comfort with high-volume desexing and mixed practice (or willingness to give it a go)
Calm, practical, solutions-focused approach in resource-limited settings
Strong organisational and communication skills
A respectful, culturally sensitive approach in a multilingual environment
WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:
Thrives in a multicultural, multilingual workplace
Can manage a clinic but still loves being hands-on
Is curious, adaptable, and always keen to learn — no matter how long you’ve been a vet
Can laugh at themselves (bonus points for a good vet joke)
Has a phone full of appropriately gross case photos to geek out over
Is ready to trade 1am “there’s one flea” calls for meaningful animal welfare impact
WHY JOIN ANIMALS FIJI?
The chance to live and work in beautiful Savusavu, surrounded by ocean, rainforest, and community
Be part of a respected animal welfare organisation with clinics across Fiji
Purpose-driven work with measurable impact
A supportive, collaborative veterinary team across multiple clinics
Exposure to population management, outreach, and welfare medicine
A positive, values-based workplace culture
