Foster an animal

Fostering a shelter animal is incredibly rewarding experience and makes our shelter kittens, puppies, cats and dogs very happy!

We launched our new Manumanu Missionaries Foster Care Program across Fiji in February 2022 in an effort to save more lives.

Animals Fiji, the Western and Northern Divisions’ first and longest standing veterinary and animal welfare organisation, has been helping to save the lives of Fijian animals for over 10 years. We lead the fight for animal welfare and veterinary care in Fiji and its new Manumanu Missionaries Foster Care program is the first of its kind for Fiji.

“Community engagement is the key to success with animal welfare and humane population control in Fiji. We’ve come so far ensuring veterinary services and expanding animal welfare in the Western and Northern Division, there is so much more work to do. We need to take the next step and have the community working alongside us.”

- Casey Quimby, Animals Fiji’s Co-Founder and Managing Trustee.

This program represents an exciting leap forward for animal welfare in Fiji. It engages and empowers local communities and creates a community shelter which means more animal lives are saved. “Our new Manumanu Missionaries Foster Care Program is the first official step into the future of sheltering.” Says Casey. “We don’t need any more shelters or sanctuaries for dogs and cats to be surrendered and forgotten about; we need action to responsibly deal with the housing shortage AND proactively prevent more unwanted animals being born.”

Animal foster care is a growing solution for animal overpopulation in combination with spaying / neutering (desexing) in countries like India, USA, Turkey, Holland, and many others. It involves members of the community taking in-need animals into their homes and providing them loving daily care until their forever family can be found. Animals Fiji is calling for community volunteers to become involved in saving the animals of Fiji both as foster carers and in a range of other roles such as dog walking, animal cuddler, help fundraising, etc. If you are interested in becoming an official Manumanu Missionaries Foster Carer or Manumanu Missionary volunteer please contact Animals Fiji on:
